Hotdog The 70's premiere pop-rock band Hotdog will be producing a concert Friday, May 2 on NBC Tent, The Fort in Taguig entitled "Yeba! Combo Festival."
?Yeba? is 60's expression that means ?okay or cool.?
The band's firm the Hotdog Productions produced the concert wherein the legendary Pinoy bands of 60's and 70's will jam together for one night only--in a reunion concert that would mostly likely be a once in a lifetime event.
"Kasi we want to help up iyong mga naunang bands before na 60s, 70s na nakalimutan na yata ng mga tao but basically because of them nagbunga lahat ang mga banda ngayon," Hotdog vocalist Rene Garcia told abs-cbnNEWS.com.
"Kung hindi nagumpisa sila sa mga band playing, we wouldn?t, kumbaga we
grew up with their music kaya kami natututong tumugtog because we were
listening to them when we were kids. Now we?d like to repay them by
doing a concert for them para din may legacy din silang maiiwan sa mga
anak nila," Garcia added.
Concert performers for that rare night are Electromaniacs, D'Dynasouls,
Cobras, Moonstrucks, Deltas, Sundowners with special guests Ramon "RJ"
Jacinto and the producers themselves, the members of the Hotdog.
The concert will be hosted by Steve O' Neal of RJ FM 100.
New album
Hotdog, the band that topped the Filipino charts in the 70's to the
early 80's will be releasing their newest album before the end of the
year.
Garcia said album will feature 10 songs, five news songs and five
classic hits. He also revealed that one song for the said CD will be
"Pinas."
Garcia said they are still on the process of looking for the best company to promote and release their album.
"Pipili kami kung sino ang pinakamaganda ang offer but basically it
depends kung sino ang makaka-promote hindi naman lahat pera basta ma
?promote lang ng tama iyon lang," Garcia said.
Other members of Hotdog include Wylo Lopez (keyboard), Guy Papasin (drums), Jun Lopez (bass) and Dennis Garcia.
Hotdog is considered as one of the pioneers of Filipino rock and roll
music. Their band first created what is now known as the Manila
Sound--light, playful, sentimental pop-rock that has Taglish
(combination of Tagalog and English) lyrics.
Garcia had this to say about Hotdog's staying power: "Kasi tinutugtug
namin iyong gusto ng tao hindi iyong pang-amin lang. We want to be able
to relate to what the people would like us to play. At saka iyong day
to day life, hindi iyong mga negatibo gusto namin iyong mga positive,
iyong mga love songs."
US concerts
Garcia added that like any other band, they make it a point to spend time together to keep their group whole and going strong.
"Ano kami, corporation, we work together in an office so outside of
music ay production group kami. Mayroong composer, mayroong arranger,
may computer graphics, may creative so para kaming opisina, hindi lang
sa band, outlet namin iyong playing kasi iyon ang first love. But
then again iyong bread and butter is doing production work," Garcia
added.
Garcia said that 10 years from now, the Hotdog will still be busy doing
production projects. They will be working behind the scenes but very
much involved with future bands.
And when asked who he think is the band that will follow Hotdog's
footsteps, Garcia quickly said: "Si Bamboo. He?s good he is very good.
(Hindi lang dahil sa pagkanta kung hindi) pati ang mga music niya,
iyong choice of music niya, lyrics niya and the topic he talks about
day to day, ganoon kami when we were starting out."
Hotdog will also be busy with concerts in the United States. "Puro kami
sa States. We are doing a tour sa state Chicago, San Francisco, Los
angeles, San Diego. Hopefully end of the year baka mayroon kaming
concert kasama iyong lahat ng kapamilya. Sa Araneta siguro. We are
still working on it. Malalaman ko within the next couple of weeks."
In 1974, the band serenaded contestants for the Miss Universe beauty
pageant with their song "Ikaw ang Miss Universe ng Buhay Ko." Their
other hits include 'Annie Batungbakal," "Bongga Ka day," "Beh Buti Nga"
and "Manila." |
