It?s about time. Finally, a guitar instrumental album that brings? together the country?s best six stringers. It?s a who?s who that brings together the legendary se?ors with today?s acclaimed hotshots. We are talking about Jun Lopito, Noli Aurillo and RJ Jacinto on the same album as Francis Reyes of The Dawn, Mike Elgar of Rivermaya, Mong Alcaraz of Sandwich and Chicosci, Hale?s Roll Martinez, Rocksteddy?s Juven Pelingon, Slapshocks? Lean Ansing, Pupil?s Yan Yuzon. Jeff de Castro for Kitchie Nadal, Ian Umali of POT, Jack Rufo of Neocolors and Barbie Almalbis.
It?s breathtakingly eclectic album, with only the guitar music itself as the only commonality. There?s something for everyone.
Umali?s ?Final Decision? and Mong Alcarez?s ?Take Charge Brown Jacket?
both feature heavy doses of electronica, with Umali opting for a laid
back funk-acid jazz trip and Alcarez evoking futuristic atmospherics.
Ansing and Rufo grind and shred the his axe with stratospheric
pyrotechnics with ?Space Jungle? and ?Aratig.? De Castro and Pelingon
rocket with their own brand of muscle guitar virtuosity with ?Swarm?
and ?Geybriel.? Yuzon delivers heavy drama with ?Mount Ordeal.? Elgar?s
?Haymaker? is tribute Led Zeppelin?s brand of classic rock.
Jacinto dusts of an oldie and gives his trademark surfer riffs ?Mashi
Mashi.? Martinez gives us twangy bluegrass folk with ?Isabelle.? Lupito
soulfully interprets Aurillio?s introspective composition ?The Veil.?
Aurilio leads us to tranquility with his own ?Ripple.? As if providing
the connection between old and new, Reyes offers restrained yet soulful
discipline with ?Cutout Skies.?
Mga Gitarista offers an engaging musical journey and offers a wide
panorama of musical genres. The only thing lacking perhaps are more
jams and collaborations, perhaps with live gutsy improvisations.
Hopefully, it?s just the jump off point for guitar solo albums from
each of these artists. |
